Richard Nattoo
Jamaican visual artist Richard Nattoo has always loved art and is a perpetual student of colour, texture, form and shape. He gained local acclaim when he started designing sticker decals for the public buses that served his hometown, Spanish Town, and nearby Portmore. The demand from bus operators for his work, plus encouragement from his high school art teachers, led him to develop his talent more confidently.
Now internationally recognized, Nattoo is a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Youth Award for Excellence. His works have been displayed in several premier exhibitions at the National Gallery of Jamaica – Jamaica Biennial (2014), Young Talent (2015), and Digital (2016) – as well as other independent exhibitions like Fragility (2019) and Fragility II (2019). He has garnered praise for his surreal, dreamlike creations that explore universal human emotions on a raw, cerebral level.
